Londoner’s Diary: King’s Cross Station

Michael Ellis

Compared to the Gothic forcefulness of St Pancras, King’s Cross (Cubitt, 1852) is noted for the simplicity of its design – geometric, symmetrical, very much a stripped down classicism. Looking at its façade, it’s a rich-tea biscuit of a building, with a curiously diminutive clocktower peeking out between the two large glass arches. I like it, though, and especially the abstract composition of the roof.
